Future Fit Self

How many times have you gone to bed thinking you will get up in the morning and exercise, then come morning decide to hit snooze and “start tomorrow”? This action rewards our present self with more sleep, but our future self loses the long-term benefits from the lack of action. Next time, if you want to make a better choice for your present and future self, focus on both the short-term and long-term rewards!

Connect the Daily Action of Exercise to an Immediate Benefit such as:

  • Knowledge that your work out will make you feel better all day by relieving anxiety.
  • Engage the power of self-esteem by choosing to feel better about yourself all day.
  • Enjoy the social gratification of working out with a friend.
  • Start the day on a positive by already accomplishing a short-term goal.
The best way to predict the future is to create it.

Chew on This

Nutrition has an effect on your dental health, but your dental health also has an effect on your nutrition. Teeth play an important role in your body for chewing properly and enjoying foods. Keep your teeth healthy so they can do their job of tearing, cutting, and grinding food in preparation for swallowing. On the flip side, eat foods that promote healthy teeth and gums.

Foods for Optimal Strong Teeth Include:

  • Calcium-rich foods such as low-fat or fat-free milk, yogurt and fortified soymilk.
  • Phosphorus is a mineral found in eggs, fish, lean meat, dairy, nuts and beans.
  • Vitamin C from citrus fruits, tomatoes, peppers, broccoli, potatoes and spinach help keep gums healthy.

Foods that negatively impact teeth and lead to cavities are anything that is a starch or carbohydrate. Bacteria loves carbohydrates, like candy, potato chips, crackers, bread, and pasta. The bacteria produces acid and causes tooth decay. It is important to brush and floss right after eating candy and other sweets.

Notes to Self

Journaling is a safe space to tell your story. It can be your time for:

  • Organizing your thoughts and observations to understand your feelings.
  • Self-reflection to look at your feelings, emotions and actions in a neutral way.
  • Insights to gain clarity, which helps resolve issues.

There is magic in the written word. Writing past and current thoughts in our own hand increases self-awareness. The idea is to write your thoughts in your own words for a closer look at what is really important to you. This helps to develop a deeper desire to learn and grow from your experiences and to become a higher version of yourself. If journaling is new to you and you don’t know where to start, begin with a focus of where you are now, with a brief introduction about who you are.

Consider these reflective questions to answer for any situation you write about:

  • What does this situation mean to you right now?
  • What does this situation give you the opportunity to reflect on?
  • What actions are you going to take as a result of this situation?
Journal writing, when it becomes a ritual for transformation, is not only life-changing but life-expanding.
