School Reopening Community: Learning Beyond COVID-19

Students were given a choice of coming back to school full-time or, enrolling in a online educational learning platform paid for by our system. If students’ families chose the online distance learning option, they were required to stick with that option for the entire 1st semester, they are not allowed to flip-flop in and out.

We are in our 12th week of in-person learning. We have had to send one grade home for 2 weeks, due to a direct exposure, and we constantly have students zooming in to in-person classes, because they are quarantining for one reason or another. It's been challenging, but it could be worse!

I’m tired all the time from rebuilding lessons we are to share from my fellow teachers who do jot teach virtually. They have our lessons. I do not know how to help them understand that a page full of links is not a virtual lesson. Then helping students try to complete lessons that they are not completing is so hard. I’m on the phone more than I am teaching. Would love some help and guidance.

No more than 30% of families have internet. We do weekly packets but our district covers over 440,000 acers. Covid has hit hard 30 deaths in last month.

The in-person is from 8:15 AM to 12:15 PM; then there are shortened classes for students who remained virtual. I think it feels great to have students back in person, but I am dissatisfied with the overall effectiveness of the model. According to district admin., the current model is likely to change again at the end of second quarter.
