About This Lesson
‘MIGRATION & WHY IT HAPPENS’ is an engaging, cross-curricular program involving rigorous synoptic assessments. Presented in four media-rich lessons, this program will extend a student's knowledge and conceptual understanding of language and history with a much-needed discussion about migration.
The Toolkit promotespositive attitudes among young people towards vulnerable migrants, enabling an exchange of learning and understanding. This pioneering approach comes in two parts: a Teacher Guide along with a student facing PowerPoint loaded with real-life audio dramas as well as other valuable assets for a stimulating lesson experience.
Wow! Years ago a few of my tutor group were talking about toys they remembered from when they were young. I had a Vietnamese boy in the class so I thought it would be interesting to hear of his toys so I asked him. His reply has stayed with me ever since " I don't remember having toys I just remember being thrown down some metal stairs by soldiers". Sometimes we need to be shocked out of our complacency and these lessons will hopefully start students thinking about what drives people from their homes to unknown lands. I particularly like the role play - always a useful tool for pushing students outside their comfort zone and make them really think about what it means to be someone else. I can only hope that lessons like this will have a valuable and positive impact on my students and in some small way contribute to a much kinder future
