About This Lesson
This two-week unit, composed of ten 60 minute lessons is created for a 7th grade English Language Arts class. The lessons and activities of this unit plan are intended for distance learning but can be modified if necessary. The topics that will be included in this unit include theme, figurative language, tone, word choice, and free verse poetry. As they read part three of “Inside Out and Back Again”, students will write a free verse poem in which they compare Ha’s experiences in Vietnam to her experiences in America. They will explain how these experiences have turned her life “inside out and back again” and support their discussion with evidence from the novel.
