About This Lesson

Guilt and shame are common among grieving students just as they are with adults. Creating a safe environment for children to disclose these feelings and providing information to normalize these reactions are important first steps to help children adjust to their loss. This module addresses the reactions of guilt and shame experienced by students after the death of a family member or friend and offers suggestions for school professionals on how to promote grieving students’ adjustment in this context.
