About This Lesson
Submitted to the EQuIP Review Panel by Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. In this five-week unit (24-25 days/45 minutes per day), students will learn key elements of satire and apply their knowledge in both reading and writing. The central text identified is Gogol’s The Nose as well as other satirical essays. This unit addresses the following standards: CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.9.1, CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.9.5, CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.9.9, CCSS.ELA-Literacy.3.A, and CCSS.ELA-Literacy.SL.9.4.
