Great idea! I think the idea

Great idea! I think the idea of reference cards to help students connect to prior knowledge is a great idea - even better when they make them cards to summarize thier learning. But I ask you to re-consider using the allligator "trick". To successfully engage in the math to come following elementary school, the students need conceptual understanding of number. I have found that the alligator trick does nothing for understanding magnitude or rational numbers. Yes - those concepts come into play in middle school.
