About This Webinar

Interest in place and project-based learning has increasingly grown in recent years, but Native peoples and nations have been using these pedagogical approaches Since Time Immemorial to transfer the knowledges, stories, and practices that sustain their communities.

Community-based education from a Native lens is an inherently culturally responsive and holistic approach to teaching and learning that draws on the unique strengths and priorities of the communities in which educators teach and can benefit not just Native students but all learners.

Join the National Indian Education Association (NIEA) in this 2025 Share My Lesson Virtual Conference session for an overview of promising practices in Native education that benefit students in all classrooms. Focusing on culturally responsive pedagogies and community-based approaches, this webinar session showcases strategies, policies, programs, and practices that draw on the unique cultural and place-based strengths of Native students, families, and communities. Drawing on research and scholarship in Indigenous education, national experts on NIEA staff will make connections and offer considerations for curriculum, instruction, assessments, and learning environments overall.

By examining these practices, the presentation emphasizes how learning from Native perspectives and knowledges can enrich the learning experience for all students, helping to create more equitable and inclusive educational communities.
