About This Webinar

Join Listenwise and Share My Lesson in a webinar on the importance of listening skills and the major impact it may have on students' career and college readiness.

Are your students good listeners? Listening skills have a major impact on students' career and college readiness and on many other aspects of their lives. Research indicates that students can comprehend two to three grade levels higher when listening than when reading. Listening is a critically important skill to improve, as it has an impact on learning across all domains. Focusing on improvement means providing opportunities for practice, assessing skills and tracking progress.

This session will give teachers an overview of why teaching listening is important and how the free tools and resources on Listenwise can help them support, assess, and track listening comprehension skills. Participants will learn how they can use podcasts to engage students and assess listening progress in order to provide targeted individualized instruction. Hear from teachers how they teach listening and how they use public radio stories curated by Listenwise for classroom use, along with accompanying listening guides and assessments. Attendees will leave with a free toolkit that includes strategy lessons for understanding vocabulary and identifying the main idea.

Professional Credit

Available for one-hour of PD credit. A certificate of completion will be available for download at the end of your session that you can submit for your school's or district's approval.

Share My Lesson is now a New York State Education Department-approved provider for Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE) requirements and an Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) approved Professional Development provider.
