Students have a lot of power to influence our country’s elections at both the local and federal levels. Help put the power back in your students’ hands with tips and strategies from a new Students Power Elections guide, created by iCivics and a team of high school students. This webinar will showcase and discuss best practices from the guide, created for students by students, such as:
- Investigating voting rules and the registration processes in your state, such as voting by mail and absentee ballots;
- Identify various barriers to voting;
- How to read, understand and analyze the ballot;
- Understanding the importance of choosing candidates you support; and
- Other ways to get involved if you are not eligible to vote such as advocacy, volunteerism, contacting elected officials.
The nonpartisan resources shared in this webinar are designed to help you empower your students to investigate and become more informed voters and active civic participants on their own, whether they will be voting in the 2020 election or in future years. A student who helped to create the resource will join us to share thoughts on why this guide is important and why some decisions were made.
Available for one-hour of PD credit. A certificate of completion will be available for download at the end of your session that you can submit for your school's or district's approval.
