Trees are going up, decorations are coming out, and gifts are being bought. That can only mean one thing: Christmas is around the corner!

As the school year comes to an end and excitement builds for Christmas, we know students can become restless, and it can be harder to maintain focus and concentration. So, we’ve lined up some resources to keep kids learning and occupied, while incorporating some holiday fun and cheer into your classroom. We have everything from math and English resources to crafts, activity booklets and pencil control activities. Whatever Christmas resources you’re looking for, you’re bound to find something below.

Christmas Math Resources

Math is an important core subject. Not everyone likes it (including me), but learning about it is essential nonetheless. Motivation to learn can be low for students when Christmas is on the horizon, especially if this is not a subject they like or find tricky. But incorporating holiday fun into their learning can help them concentrate and feel excited.

These Christmas math packs, available below, range from kindergarten to grade 8, making them ideal for students of all ages. They’re fantastic for reinforcing learning and exploring new areas of math, including:

  • Counting
  • Graph reading
  • Learning to tell the time
  • Multiplication
  • Equations
  • Money-handling skills

PreK-2 Math

If you are teaching younger children at the pre-K or kindergarten level, then the following resources will be perfect for you:

  • Santa's Sleigh Addition and Subtraction—students can practice addition and subtraction with this fun holiday activity. It’s an amazing activity for reinforcing math learning, while fostering interest through Santa’s sleigh.
  • Christmas Tree Number Matching Game—engaging students through games can be beneficial for many reasons. It helps make students' learning fun, supports critical thinking skills and knowledge retention. This game is awesome for number recognition, shape identification and, if you choose to create teams, can build social skills. This is also ideal for home-schooling and individual learning.

12 Days Of Christmas Math Activities

Ideal for grades preK-2, these festive activities capture the magic of the 12 Days of Christmas, while supporting students' counting and sorting skills, critical thinking and shape recognition. Not only do these activities engage students through fun activities and recognizing Christmas songs, they also support learning through play and encourage number bonding skills.

Don’t forget these fun Candy Cane Activities for pre-K and kindergarten, containing tracing and pattern activities.

Grades 3-5 Math

These resources are best for students in grades 3-5. These Christmas math challenge cards contain mental math problems for students to solve with holiday pictures and themes.

The penguin addition math mosaic encourages students to practice their addition skills. Students need to figure out the sums to create the mosaic and come away with their penguin picture!

English Language Christmas Resources

Let's not forget English! There are plenty of ways to teach English while celebrating Christmas within your classroom or at home. Resources include reading comprehension, syllables, literacy packs and writing practice for preK-5 students.

  • A fabulous way to teach young children and keep them engaged is through games. Learning English doesn’t have to be boring. Use this gingerbread syllable activity to introduce your students to syllable counting and phonics. The gingerbread templates bring holiday cheer to the classroom and make the activity festive for your students.
  • This Third Grade Christmas Tree Reading Comprehension Activity has everything you need to strengthen your third-graders' reading skills while teaching them about the history of Christmas trees. The activity assesses students' understanding through written answers and multiple-choice questions, further supporting writing and spelling skills. You could follow this activity with a fun Christmas craft to round off learning and finish on a fun note.
  • If you’re looking to focus on developing students' writing skills and encourage them to explore their imagination, using a Christmas writing activity could be just the thing. This Christmas wish list is a wonderful way for students to think about what gifts they will give others, what gifts they need and what holiday activities they want to do with friends and family. It’s fantastic for practicing sentence structure, expanding vocabulary, and studying spelling.

A reading passage titled “Christmas Trees” explains the history and traditions of Christmas trees, including early decorations, homemade garlands, and the use of artificial trees. On the bottom right, there is an illustration of a decorated Christmas tree with red garland and silver ornaments. Beside it stands a young girl in a green skirt and pink top, holding a stuffed animal and looking up at the tree. The passage is framed with a green border and has a patterned background along the bottom.

Christmas Writing and Pencil Control Activities

Practicing tracing and pencil control is essential in early childhood. Tracing will help young learners develop their fine motor, writing and recognition skills. If you teach pre-K and kindergarten, these quick and easy resources are perfect:

Christmas Crafts

Christmas isn’t Christmas without crafts. Of course, learning core subjects is super important, but spending time learning through play and creating crafts is also vital for fine motor skill development and mindfulness.

The Christmas Activities Mega Pack includes learning from both math and English, making it awesome to use as a reinforcement activity after lessons. It also contains crafts, coloring sheets and games.

Other Ways To Support Your Students

There are other ways to support your students with their learning at this time of year. Some simple things you can do might be:

  • Decorate your classroom. Use crafts or banners to create a festive and cozy space for your students to learn in. This creates a more positive and stimulating working environment and can help to increase student engagement.
  • Encourage learning even in free time through Christmas-themed activities like creating Christmas cards for friends and family, to engage and excite students for the holidays.
  • Use games alongside learning to encourage teamwork between students and reinforce knowledge. This will help students' concentration levels and keep spirits high in the classroom on the countdown to Christmas.

We hope you’ve found some handy tips and resources from this blog, and now you have more resources to support your students. You can find even more holiday content over at Twinkl. Have a wonderful Christmas!
