About This Lesson
This handout has students examine the three main clauses of the Eighth Amendment to the Constitution, along with three court cases dealing with excessive bail, fines, and cruel and unusual punishment. It also asks students to consider whether solitary confinement and the death penalty are cruel and unusual.
