About This Lesson
One of the inconvenient truths of modern media is that there is no singular checklist of criteria that can absolutely determine the reliability of a source. However, students can learn how to interrogate sources and consider the impact that the presence or absence of certain criteria have on their judgment of that source's reliability. Part of media literacy is considering not just the content of a given source but its context i.e. its authorship, its commercial implications, ownership of its platform, etc. This lesson plan and activity will provide students with a framework for interrogating a wide range of media to determine reliability.
