About This Lesson

This role play helps students recognize the issues at stake in the historic struggle of the Standing Rock Sioux to block construction of the Dakota Access oil pipeline.

The setting of the role play is a meeting, called by the U.S. President, to hear input on whether the Dakota Access Pipeline should be completed. Students, representing five different groups, must convince the President that the project should be abandoned or allowed to proceed.
