About This Lesson
This companion toolkit for educators included additional resources and lesson plans geared towards introducing ENOUGH! to students.
ENOUGH! Plays to End Gun Violence calls on TEENS (ages 13-19) from across the country to write and submit 10-minute plays that confront the issue of gun violence.
From Intro:
"DEAR EDUCATOR
Thank you for your interest in ENOUGH! Plays to End Gun Violence. We’d be honored to have you join us in this transformative year of critical conversations, brave theatremaking, and powerful relationship-building.
We know your students–and you–think about gun violence regularly. The threat looms large in our streets, homes, places of worship, public areas, and classrooms. Giving students a chance to talk about it frankly and creatively is a foundational step toward building trust, growing confidence, and sparking dialogue that can lead to action.
And that, after all, is precisely what theatre is: dialogue + action. ENOUGH! gives you and your students the tools to use playwriting as a vehicle for expression, communication, empathy-building, and problem-solving. Through ENOUGH! you will empower your students to confront gun violence by creating new works of theatre that will inspire both dialogue AND action, emboldening America’s creative and civic leaders of tomorrow to discover and develop their voices today.
Every community’s relationship to gun violence is different. Our job is not to impose our point of view on young writers, only to encourage them to articulate their own. Since our first year in 2020, young writers continue to wow us with their fresh perspectives, bold solutions, and inspiring visions of a better future–one which they hope to build.
Lastly, you are not alone. You don’t need to be an expert on playwriting or gun violence to bring ENOUGH! to your school. We are here to walk with you every step of the way. No one has all the answers–which is why ENOUGH! remains so important. Don’t discount the ways your own gifts–your own interests, experiences, and relationships–can contribute to this collaborative conversation. And feel free to reach out to us at any time for advice: enoughplays@gmail.com.
Thank you for giving your students a chance to write the change they wish to see in the world.
